Lotus Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2008

This is a small production (1600 cases), hand crafted wine from a family-owned winery in Paso Robles. This area of rolling hills, about 20 minutes from the ocean in the Central Coast of California, is an ideal spot for varietals that like to struggle. Cabernet vines planted on gentle slopes get perfect drainage, lots of sunshine during the day, and the cool breezes from the Pacific at night sweep in to put them to bed. This wine displays a bright ruby color and blackberry and cassis on the nose. Next comes a jammy, supple mouth with raspberry, pomegranate, and a hint of tart cherry on the finish.

Claraval do Calatayud

91 POINTS Robert Parker

The 2006 Claraval, 100% old-vine Garnacha, was sourced from higher elevation vineyards. Opaque purple-colored, the wine coats the glass. It gives up an alluring aromatic array of wood smoke, mineral, scorched earth, black cherry, black raspberry, and violets. This leads to a medium to full-bodied, layered wine with loads of sweet, spicy dark fruit flavors, ripe tannin, good balance, and a long, pure finish. Give it 2-3 years to blossom and drink it through 2020.  To this point, the D.O. of Calatayud has been best known for exceptional value. However, this is slowly changing as people appreciate just how good the wines made from its old-vine Grenache vineyards can be.

FAQ

Q: If I live outside of Ontario may I order wine through your web site?
A: The LCBO requires that we deliver the wine to an Ontario address. Therefore we are not able to sell wine to purchasers living outside of Ontario.

Q: How many bottles of wine are in each case?
A: Unless indicated otherwise on the order form a case of wine contains twelve bottles. .Some suppliers who currently package in 12's have agreed to ship 6 bottles through a private order. The good news is that you can order a half case, the bad news is that it takes much longer. Private orders will require an additional 10 to 12 weeks for processing.

Q: What is a Private Order?
A: A private order is an order put through the LCBO by the licensed agent (Thompson Vintage Trade) to the Supplier for a specific customer (You). The minimum order is 1 case, but that case can be 6 or 12 bottles depending on available winery packaging. A private order is useful when someone wants to get a wine not available through consignment or wants to order six bottles of a wine, which is normally only available in a case of twelve bottles. These orders usually take 8-12 weeks to arrive once they have been placed.

Q: What is Consignment?
A: Consignment is a program through the LCBO that allows licensed agents (Thompson Vintage Trade) to order wine from around the world to sell to Restaurants and consumers in Ontario. The agent must indicate to the LCBO the name of the purchaser of each case of wine sold through consignment. Have you ever wondered why, a wine you enjoyed in a restaurant is not available at the LCBO? It has likely come through this program, or, in rare cases, a Restaurateur has ordered wine using a private order.

Q: Why doesn't the agent open the case, send me six and sell the remaining six to someone else?
A: The LCBO does not allow the agent to split a case of twelve and send an individual a partial case.

Q: Can I mix bottles in one case?
A: At this point in time, mixing bottles in cases is not allowed for imported wine under the Private order/consignment program. However, this is under review.

Q: What is General List?
A: The products sold directly through the LCBO stores.

Q: If I am a licensed establishment, can I order wines through your website?
